The York
Region Elementary Enrichment Band is an overnight camp program where talented
musicians from Grades 6 to 8 rehearse under the direction of Dr. Jeffrey
Reynolds of the Faculty of Music at the University of Toronto. The camp runs
June 4 – June 7th, 2018 at the Cedar Glen Outdoor Education. Application will open in
January 8, 2018. To apply, please complete this online form. The application deadline is February
5, 2018.
Students applying are required to audition. Please access audition materials online. Auditions will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2018 between 5:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. at Baythorn Public School. Applicants will be expected to play all audition materials provided, or they may choose to play an alternate piece (same or higher level of difficulty). In addition, applicants will be asked to play a short sight passage. Accommodation will be provided on a case-by-case basis for students requiring an online audition submission. Students will be selected for the York Region
Elementary Enrichment Band based on the following performance criteria, where
the student demonstrates:
§ Skill level (approximately grade
2 level band music);
§ Ability to play musically, and;
§ Appropriate tone, pitch, rhythm,
dynamics, and articulation
Audition results will be shared with students
through a personalized communication sent to their email and home school after
March Break.
Once successfully accepted, students will
participate in the full enrichment program that includes:
- a
pre-camp rehearsal from 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. on May 23, 2018 at Baythorn
P.S.;
- an
enrichment band camp from June 4 - 7th, 2018 at The Cedar Glen YMCA
Outdoor Centre;
- a
family concert on Thursday, June 7th, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at Newmarket High
School, and;
- Student
concerts on Friday, June 8th, 2018 at the Newmarket Theatre.
Students accepted into the York Region Elementary
Enrichment Band will be required to submit the YREEB 2018 Acceptance Package
that includes the 2018 Informed Consent Agreement, Health Certificate, and
Friday Bus Form, along with a full payment of $375.00. A parent information
night will follow the pre-camp rehearsal at Baythorn Public School on May
23, 2018. If you have questions regarding the
