I am so happy to be back in the library getting reacquainted with all our students and their families and connecting them to all of the resources we have to offer.
Borrowing Books - all students from Kindergarten to Grade 3 visit the library weekly and have the opportunity to borrow new books as long as they have returned books previously borrowed. Students in grades 4 to 8 can come to the library whenever they need to during Open Book Exchange times. Books are to be returned or renewed within 2 weeks and families will be asked to reimburse the library for any books lost or badly damaged. Notices will be sent home regarding any outstanding library materials.
Author Visit - We are lucky to have a young author, Alessia Dickson, coming to our school on Wednesday, October 26th (grades 5 & 6) and Thursday, November 3rd (grades 7 & 8) to speak to our older students about the importance of reading, the writing process and how she got her book published. Alessia is a student at Emily Carr Secondary School, so I'm sure our students will be able to relate well to her. She will have copies of her book, "The Crystal Chronicles" available for purchase for $20 and will happily autograph any books purchased. Students can speak to me, Ms. Curtis, to reserve a book to purchase.
The Changing Environment in the Library - We are currently in the process of redesigning the Library space to better meet the needs of our students. As new furniture and equipment arrives the Library will transform into a true Learning Commons going beyond just books. Throughout the year we will create, build, take apart, experiment, make mistakes, ask questions, problem solve and, of course, read lots of great books together. Families are encouraged to come check our space out during Curriculum Night and any other time they are in the school and I'm around to give a tour.
